PHA Disappointed in Irresponsible News Report

The Public Hospitals Authority wishes to express its deep dissatisfaction with the Eyewitness News media outlet following the publication of the story “PMH Looking to be Sued Following Medication Mix Up” which was reported on Monday, July 22, 2019.
The story which assigns causation to an unproven statement, impugns the reputation of not only the PHA but also the physicians who serve as part of the clinical team at the Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH). The matter to which Eyewitness News referred was under review at the time the story was released.
The Authority is aware of a subsequent release by Eyewitness News titled “Clarification” which states, “Our video publication entitled “PMH Looking to Be Sued Following Medication Mix Up” has been deleted as the allegations therein had not been fact checked in accordance with our usual policy. We apologize to the Princess Margaret Hospital, Public Hospital Authority and physicians involved in the matter.”

Additionally, Eyewitness News posted a follow up article to this clarification headed, “The Matter Is Under Review, PHA Says.” In that article Eyewitness News then speaks to fact that the PHA reported that the matter was under review. A fact that was communicated to them when they contacted the PHA on Monday, July 22, 2019.

The Public Hospitals Authority wishes to make very clear that the reporting and handling of this story by Eyewitness News is tantamount to irresponsible journalism and fear mongering; and is not the way any reputable media organization ought to seek to do business.

While the PHA will not divulge any further information regarding this case as the matter is under review, and the patient is well aware of the review, the Authority is now reviewing the option of taking legal action.
