Anti-inflammatory Agents, Prednisone

Indications/Special comments:
Treatment of a variety of diseases including: endocrine disorders, rheumatic disorders (adjunct), collagen diseases, dermatologic diseases, allergic states, ophthalmic diseases, respiratory diseases, haematologic disorders, neoplastic diseases, oedematous states, gastrointestinal diseasesMiscellaneous: Tuberculous meningitis with subarachnoid block or impending block when used concurrently with appropriate antituberculous chemotherapy; trichinosis with neurologic or myocardial involvement.
Dosage Administration:
Adult: 10 – 20mg daily, adjusted according to response, dose to be take at bedtime. Gastric irritation may be reduced if taken before, during, or immediately after meals or with food or milk. Please see product leaflet.

Long-term management of hyperuricemia associated with chronic gout. Note: It is not effective in the treatment of acute gout attacks and does not eliminate the need to use colchicine or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs to relieve an attack.
Dosage Administration:
Adult: Antigout: Oral: Initial - 250mg two times a day for one week. Maintenance - 500mg two times a day. Child: dosage has not been established.

Indications/Special comments:
Chronic open-angle glaucoma; ocular hypertension; emergency treatment of acute angle-closure glaucoma; to antagonize effects of mydriasis and cycloplegia following surgery or ophthalmoscopic examination
Dosage Administration:
Adult: Chronic open-angle glaucoma: by instillation into the eye, 1 drop (2% or 4%) up to 4 times daily. Acute angle-closure glaucoma before surgery: by instillation into the eye, 1 drop (2%) every 10 minutes for 30 - 60 minutes, then 1 drop every 1 - 3 hours until intraocular pressure subsides.

Dosage Administration:
Protamine sulphate usually is administered by very slow IV injection over 10 minutes. No more than 50mg of the drug should be administered in any 10 minute period. Dosage Administration:
Adult: IM, IV, SC: 0.5 - 2mg to start, repeat every 20 minutes until response occurs or adverse effect occurs. Repeat 1 - 4mg every 30 - 60 min as life - threatening signs.Child: IV: 0.01 - 0.03mg/kg/dose (maximum: 0.5mg/min); may repeat after 5 - 10 minutes to a maximum total dose of 2mg.

Depressive illness in patients clinically characterized as atypical, nonendogenous, or neurotic
Dosage Administration:
Depression. Adult: initial dose 15mg 3 times daily early phase increase rapidly as tolerated to 60 to 90mg/day (may take 4 weeks of 60mg/ day before clinical response. Maintenance: After maximum benefit obtained slowly reduce dose over several weeks dose may be as low as 15mg/day or every other day. Elderly: initially lower end of dosing range ie. 7.5mg increase of 7.5mg every 4 to 8 days as tolerated to achieve theraputic dose of 22.5 - 60mg/day in elderly.

CR formulation (MDD) 25mg daily increase if needed by 12.5mg/day at least a 1 week interval, max dose 62.5mg/day. Panic disorder: Oral: Adult: Initially 10mg daily, dose to be taken in the morning, increased in steps of 10mg, dose to be increased gradually, increased to 40mg daily, no evidence of greater efficacy at higher doses; maximum 60mg per day. Elderly: Initially 10mg daily, dose to be taken in the morning, increased in steps of 10mg, dose to be increased gradually; maximum 40mg per day. CR formulation - 12.5mg once daily increase if needed by 12.5mg/day at intervals of at least 1 week, max dose 7 mg/day. Social anxiety disorder: CR formulation- 12.5mg once daily increase if needed by 12.5mg/day at intervals of at least 1 week, max dose 37.5mg/day.
